We left on August 12. We had hoped to explore the ruins near Reutte Austria, but the weather was BAD, very rainy and very wet, so we just explored Reutte itself. We stayed at a great and cute hotel there and ate a very yummy Austrian meal at their restaurant. There was a cute girl there who kept coming over to play with the kids. We loved the painted buildings we saw throughout Germany and Austria. No need to bother actually constructing architectural details, just paint them (which seems to me would also require tremendous skill and lots of time!). We window shopped and wandered around.

Keeping busy in the car. The kids did really well. Paisley commissioned me to draw princesses and princes the whole time and she colored them. And Geneve all things considered really did not have all that many accidents, though we did have a few and they did slow us down when they happened.

The next day, 13th, we visited two amazing castles: Hohenshwangau and Neuschwanstein in the Bavarian (southeastern) area of Germany. You're not allowed to take photos within, though I did sneak a couple, but the iteriors were AMAZING. just dripping and laden in perfectly crafted, enormous and beautiful royal treasures. We discovered on our travels that in Germany and Austria, yellow seems to be a favorite color of royals. We saw several yellow castles and buildings. Horses are everywhere and horse-drawn carriages. Geneve got so excited and said "horsey!" every time. We took one carriage ride. Cado and Paisley were apparently very enchanted with all the castle stuff and took to being a prince and princess the whole trip, there was a lot of kissing and hand holding and general sweetness. When Cado is like this, Paisley is in heaven! And I love it too.

Neuschwanstein: the "sleeping beauty" castle. It's too bad the weather was so foggy. Fortunately we saw it again at the end of the trip and it was all lit up by the sunset and was even more breathtaking. This place is amazing.

Mary's bridge: we would have liked to go out on it for a great view of the castle, but we didn't.

did I mention, the castle is unfinished? yep. I thought this was a particularly telling area.

So the next stop, Saturday August 14th, Vienna. Vienna was beautiful. We had a some sun on the first day. Geneve had to be chased after a lot. She enjoyed chasing birds of course. it seems like every building in Vienna is perfect, grand and architecturally stunning.

Paisley's hilarious personality. here she is giving a discourse (while waiting for the rest of the family to come out of the bathroom) on her own special language. She is explaining her language and trying to teach it to me.

Words of Wisdom I hope I can remember and live by!
"We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley "I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley
