October...wow, what a busy month! (when was the last time we had a slow month!?)
here is the St. Cergue desalpes, cow festival, when they bring the cows down from pasture for the winter. We actually saw it all this year. It's a very cool, very Swiss thing to experience. Spencer's brother Shad came to visit the next weekend, the next weekend I went to the temple with the youth, and the next weekend was Halloween I think. So, take: outings, day trips, Halloween, a guest, having 3 kids, callings at church... and add to that the photography I did (go to my blogspot site to see that), and it is no wonder I never found the time to blog about our busy and fun October!

Although the Swiss say that the cow festival is done for the expats - and there were a lot of expats there. It was fun and really cool having Shad here with us.

We were very happy to welcome Shad for a few days. The first day we took him on a tour of Geneva, the next we went to Gruyeres and stopped for a picnic on the lake in Morges. (I lost my SD card that had those pictures on it, somewhere along the way on this Gruyeres day :( )

When I look at the pictures of the Gruyeres area, I am reminded again of why we take our guests there if we can. It is such an awesome blend of the classic flavors of Suisse-Romand: chocolate, castles, gorgeous mountains and countryside, cows, cheese...

Oh, and when we arrived at the chocolate factory, we were in for a great surprise...they had totally redone the place! Before it was mostly great just because you got to eat free chocolate at the end, but otherwise was actually pretty lame. But now...it's really cool! and you still get free chocolate!

LOVE this place! Before we went I was trying to find somewhere or something new to share with our guest as we've done Gruyeres so many times, but in the end I had to recognize it's the best for showing off the best of the area in one fell swoop, and it never disappoints.

On Tuesday the girls and I and Shad went downtown to the Museum of Art and History in Geneva, which I had never been to, and I'm glad we did. It was great and free!

Our Stake organized a temple trip for the youth (the temple is about 2 hours away). It was a really great experience for the youth that went. It was a very well put-together event, and it was neat to be there with them. I love my calling. It's a big one, but I feel the Lord's support and help so much. I couldn't do it otherwise. I love these girls, and I know what I'm doing is making a difference for good in their lives, and I get to feel at least a bit of the love that Heavenly Father has for them, and thus for everyone, and it's amazing.

spent a lovely, really lovely, afternoon with my kids at the park. It was just a perfectly gorgeous Autumn day. It was heavenly. It was a much needed moment to focus on my kids and enjoy them and God's creations. We all said it was a perfect day and didn't want it to end!

planned a little Halloween party with my neighbor and friend Tara at her place...and didn't take one picture! But here's the invitation. I found this cupcake picture on a website and loved it and thought it would be a good image for the invite...but we didn't actually make these. Someday!
The party was fun. We did it right before the church party, and Neve stayed home with Daddy and napped, and then we went to the church party at 6ish.

Halloween. This collage has pictures from Asia's Halloween themed birthday party, which was so fun and so cute! her mommy did a great job! And also pictures from the church Halloween party. Spencer wore an Ikea blanket, I was the "white witch" from Narnia, Cado was Batman (bcuz Buzz costume didn't arrive in time! ), Paisley Toy Story 3 Barbie, and Geneve Jessie.
(I made the Barbie costume, and the Jessie costume (except for hat) was made by my friend Laura!). Since Halloween day was on Sunday, we did our version of the "evil eye restaurant" that night.

other October:
in January of this year I bought stuff to make a quilt for Geneve....I finally made it, and curtains.
Paisley gave me a lesson on how to draw like her, (mine on left, her's on right), Cado's dominoe castle, Geneve asleep on my bed with a million books, Spencer and I at the Stake dance, Geneve's chocolatey funny face, kids helping with chores, kids lifesized self-portraits.

Words of Wisdom I hope I can remember and live by!
"We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley "I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley
