On May 28th and 29th Paisley had a total of 3 dance recitals she performed in. (In french a performance is called "spectacle" which is said "speck-TACK-leh")

Friday night Daddy went with her, Saturday matinee at 4 pm we all went, and then I stayed for her final performance at 8. 2 late nights, plus she had her regular class on Wednesday and an extra practice on Thursday. So, she was really exhausted, she slept in and missed preschool on Monday. I felt it was a bit much for a 4 year old, but of course it was nonetheless fun and exciting for her and us.

Paisley was adorable and fun to watch. I was proud of her, she really didn't seem afraid or clam up on the stage like I thought she might. Paisley is a good dancer in the sense that she is intuitive about moving her body and interpreting music through her dancing, and she is graceful and passionate about it. But at least at this young point, remembering a sequence is another story, and being in front of a large audience is a new thing and I think was pretty intimidating even if it didn't show how I thought it might. She just looked at everyone else and was almost never doing the right thing at the right time! But then not many were actually. They all seemed pretty lost. Oh, and space is a hard concept. They were supposed to leave space between them when they came onto the stage but it was more like bumper cars! It was very cute. They had a finale number too, and that was really cute. It was upbeat and lively and involved skipping and turning and fake snapping. At home the week after her performance Paisley was doing her dances and doing them really well and remembering the order of things and everything, so I think it had a lot to do with the stage. Unfortunately I relate all too well, I think I'm a pretty natural and intuitive dancer but remembering a sequence...I've never been good at that. My mind freezes up, connection between the brain and the body moves just a bit too slow.

What's been so fun though is that Paisley has been able to do this with her friends Asia and Justine. They have had so much fun with each other, and I'm glad they got to share this first recital experience with friends. I got to be with my friends as a consequence, so it was a good deal for me too!

Geneve and Cado and Daddy all enjoyed the show too. Geneve got really into it and was dancing to all the numbers. I think Cado was especially impressed by the break dancing, which would be hard not to be impressed by, it's pretty amazing. There was a lot of fun numbers, a lot of hip hop.

Also to note, that Saturday:

I went to a women's conference at church from 9 to 1, Spencer took the kids to a carnival at Cado's school from 11-2, (I met them for the last few minutes) and then we went to Paisley's shows! It was quite a charged Saturday.  We were ready for our relaxing Sunday! Which I'll tell you about soon, as well as hopefully get some dance videos up! (I'm video posting challenged, so we'll see....)

Words of Wisdom I hope I can remember and live by!
"We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley "I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley
