We had such a fabulous day on Saturday in the Berner/Bernese Oberland which is about a three hour drive from us.  It is such a beautiful place.  Its definitely a place we'd love to take anyone that visits.  We left around 8 am, and came home around 11 pm I think.  When we got there we were so excited because the weather was gorgeous and clear, and that meant it would be worth going to the top the "Schilthorn," on the gondola that stops in a total of 4 places.  Its the only way up to these towns.  Who thought of building up there?  And then undertook to create an amazing gondola all the way up!  I am impressed and awed by all of it.

After hanging out in the snow for awhile (how cool that in August you can do that, which for me is probably the only time I'd want to with my low tolerance for cold), we headed down to Murren where we did a "Children's Adventure hike."  Don't be decieved (as I was), "Children's" does not mean easy or short.  It was quite difficult, rigorous and steep and much longer than we ever discovered.  It was an adventure and beautiful though.  "Children's" refers to the fact that there are playground things for the kids along the way, if the kids and their parents can make it, which in our case we only got a bit past the first playground.  But what an extremely picturesque place!  Then we went down to tiny little Gimmelwald where they have cheese shacks, cows and goats and other animals roaming along the steep grassy mountainside, and quintessential Swiss style homes with flowers blooming out of every windowsill and balcony.  Then we actually ate in Lauterbrunnen which is at the bottom before the gondola, at a restaurant at Hotel Oberland.  We had some Swiss classics and enjoyed a gorgeous view from our patio location.  It was really a lovely day that I'm so glad we experienced!

You forgot the part where we ate lunch on top of the mountain, on a bench on a snow covered ridge.  Cado had icecile bars for dessert.  Not much taste, but definitely frozen.  We hiked from the top compound down to the ridge, using a cable to keep us from falling down the mountain.  It was a lot of work with the kids and Harmony being pregnant, but awesome to experience.

wow, gorgeous, what an adventure.   I can't imagine what it would be like to live there and grow up somewhere so isolated and yet so peaceful and beautiful.  I am glad you guys got to experience it.  Awesome! ! !

What fabulous experiences your little family is having.  I'm glad you take lots of pictures.  You wonder how much Cado and Paisley will remember of these adventures in years to come?  You will certainly remember.  Where are you going next?

"We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley "I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley
