"Is today a play day or a school day", Cado always asks.  Today was a play day.  Yep, the Jeûne Genevois is an annual holiday in Geneva, which has some significance that you can discover on wikipedia.

Rather than being really focused on abstaining from food for the day, my coworkers specifed that it is much moreso a fast from work.  Which I'm OK with.  It was a beautiful day so we borrowed a bike from a bike rental place (that has some free bikes like the one we got) and then took off for a bike ride of the city as a family.  Boy was it fun.  I love being with my family, I love biking, and I love this website so I'm glad to share it here now.

Cado rode his own bike, I mine, and Harmony on the bike with the two girls in the front basket.  We took sandwiches for a picnic and swimsuits in case the water was nice at the lake.  We went over the United Nations, then down to the lake, over the the other side of the lake, up through a park to a wading pool, then back home along the lake and river.

Great day!

this was such a fun day! thanks for sharing about it. i LOVED riding through the fountains, much better than running around in a swimsuit,( which i've never actually done. ) seeing geneva this way seems to make everything extra beautiful, it was a gorgeous day.

Back in Switzerland.  It feels good to be back home, but the jet lag's pretty difficult this time.  We traveled for almost 24 hours by the time we got home on Friday night.

For all of you in the U.S., we miss you already.  It was great to see so many of you.  Please come visit.

For those in Switzerland - let's hang out.  We've missed you.

I sent a thank you note for the great picture to Orem. If it never reaches you, know that we appreciated it and your vist to the reunion very much. One of the great pleasures of "advanced" age is watching the growth in mind and body of those you love.

Are Cado and Paisley noticing the jet lag as well?  I remember when you first arrived and you posted blogs and pictures about and of the kids sleeping at odd times in your motel.  Is it worse this time?  Perhaps you have already forgotten those first difficult weeks.  It's like child bearing labor. It's good we forget how bad it is or we would never have more children.  Thanks for coming.  We miss you too and wish you all speedy jet lag recovery.

Its been much better than our first trip over for all of us (Believe me, I remember it well).  But the kids have had a bit of a hard time sleeping all through the night and our schedule is a bit off. I don't feel tired til at least 1 am and the kids don't get to sleep until 10  pm and then we all wake up at 9 or later.  But we're getting there, and during the day we're all pretty awake.

I am having a hard time with the change in schedule, taking Josh and Jeff to work. I have been so exhausted and very lethargic.  I am not usually so tired.  Today I feel better however.  Mom and are getting back on schedule with the water aerobics, maybe that had something to do with it, since I have not been working out as consistently.  Having Jet lag on top of all that I think would be passed out in bed for a few days.  I hope your all feeling back to normal soon.  WE MISS YOU!  Loves, kissed and hugs to all of you.  Dad and Pop Pop.

Wow, I have a hard enough time taking myself to work!  Congratulations and good luck.

So - Dad, whatever was the problem with you Toyota?

Finally - for me the jet lag has been more difficult than other times.  But I think I'm back to normal now - although I did sleep in till 9:30 today rather than go to work at a normal time.  But the kids are doing excellent so far.  Only Paisley woke up, and only briefly, last night.

Harmony, the schedule you posted above (not feeling tired til at least 1 am and waking up at 9 or later) sounds like a carry-over from the schedule you had here in Orem.  I think my body has jet lag all the time.  It doesn't want to sleep at all.  I'm still trying to get  some sleep.  Vacations are great!  But they can sure be hard on the body.

It was a high pressure oil hose that we couldn't see.  It cost $185.00 to replace it.  Much better than the whole engine going.

It used to be covered in layers off ice, all of those little wires, and the same thing at the top, which you can't see here.  A freezer on the bottom of the refrigerator is a good idea except when you have kids that can open it when they please.

I boiled water and put the pans in the freezer on top of these corkboard pads we have.  It actually didn't take too long.

Incredibly....random.

Cool though!
spencer on Tuesday June 3, 2008
Its not random.  It's what I spent over an hour doing.  Thanks for noticing.

And actually what he's saying is, We're about to leave on a really long vacation! woohoo!
harmony on Tuesday June 3, 2008
oh, and thanks Spencer.  You're a stud.  The freezer looks awesome!
Peter312 on Tuesday June 3, 2008
That is all you have for storage of fresh, no wonder you go food shopping so often.
harmony on Tuesday June 3, 2008
we actually have a pretty large fridge and freezer for Europe. But yes, that is one reason we have to buy food so often.
spencer on Wednesday June 4, 2008

What do you mean by "fresh".  This is our freezer, where we store all of our non-fresh things, the things we  buy frozen or want frozen.  We store our fresh produce, drinks, and meats (the ones we aren't freezing) in the refrigerator which is above our freezer; we store fresh breads in the cupboard; we store fresh fruits in on the counter in a bowl; we store fresh chocolate (for a short time) in the cupboard above the sink.  Breath freshner is usually in Harmony's purse or in the diaper bag.  We store stinky diapers in a bag by the front door and take them out quickly to keep a fresh smell in the house...

Peter, have I given you a hard enough time yet?

The freezer is about the same size as the freezer we had in the states.  The refrigerator is smaller the freezer is on the bottom and the refrigerator on the top.  The picture you are looking at is our freezer.

We've found that produce doesn't last as long here, even when stored in the refrigerator - so we can't store it as long and therefore have to go grocery shopping more often.  Also, since we don't have a car, we can only buy an amount that we can physcially carry back home - another reason why we buy less at a time and have to go more often.  Finally, food is extremely expensive, so that means not buying large amounts to avoid killing the bank account.

Great job!  Mine is due for cleaning.  I'll save it for you.  I'm so glad you learned to work - I'm sure it is all because of the chores you were required to do in your childhood and youth.  ha ha ha!  I love you.  I think you are totally awesome.
Peter312 on Tuesday June 10, 2008
Ouch!! Man I got put in my place didn't I?  I will be very careful with my next comments on Roundbook.
spencer on Friday June 13, 2008
So I must correct myself.  I went into our storage unit the other day here in California and it turns out, while our freezer/refrigerator is huge compared to other European refrigerators, it's about half the size of our refrigerator/freezer from the states.

I have gone through quite the cultural shock being in the state - everything is so huge!
